Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) also called as PCOS is a hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges. It is a problem in which a women’s hormones are out of balance. It can cause problems with menstrual periods and make it difficult for her to conceive. The principal features include no ovulation, irregular periods, acne and hirsuitism. If not treated it can cause insulin resistant diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol leading to heart disease.

PCOS PCOD Symptoms include menstrual irregularity, excess hair growth, acne and obesity.

1. Drink plenty of water: Drink at least 2 litres of water per day. Flavored water will help. In order to overcome this, try to drink one glass of water whenever the clock strikes the hour. पी. सी. ओ. डी. (polycystic ovarian disease ) व आयुर्वेद
गेल्या काही वर्षात झपाट्याने वाढीस लागलेला एक प्रकार म्हणजे स्त्रियांमध्ये वाढत चाललेले पी.सी. ओ.डी. या विकृतीचे प्रमाण.
पूर्वी मुलीस मासिक पाळी सुरु झाल्यापासून, विवाहानंतर, २ मुले होईपर्यंत साधारणपणे फारशा तक्रारी ऐकू येत नसत. हल्ली मुलींमध्ये मासिक पाळीच्या अनेक तक्रारी ऐकू येतात. तसेच विवाहित मुलींमध्ये गर्भधारणा नैसर्गिक पद्धतीने होण्याचे प्रमाण कमी झालेले आढळते.याची अनेक कारणे आहेत, मात्र अनेक मुलींमध्ये सध्या जास्त प्रमाणात आढळणारे  कारण म्हणजे पी.सी.ओ.डी.

काय आहे हे पी. सी. ओ. डी.?
स्त्री ची मासिक पाळी नियमित येणे व तिच्या शरीरामध्ये स्त्री बीज निर्मिती नियमितपणे होणे ही दोन अतिशय महत्वाची चक्रे सातत्याने चालू असतात. या दोन चक्रांच्या नियमिततेवर तिचे मासिक पाळीचे  आरोग्य अवलंबून असते. केवळ इतकेच नव्हे तर तिचे सर्वसाधारण आरोग्य सुद्धा बऱ्याचअंशी यावर अवलंबून असते.
जेव्हा काही कारणांनी स्त्रीबीज उत्पन्न करणाऱ्या अवयवाच्या कार्यामध्ये बिघाड होतो,किंवा त्या स्त्री बीजांडा भोवती एक पातळ पाणीदार पडदा किंवा फुगा तयार होतो त्यावेळी त्यामधून स्त्री बीज बाहेर पडण्यास अडचण निर्माण होते. याचा परिणाम तिच्या मासिक पाळीवर होतो. पाळी वेळेवर न येणे, त्यामध्ये खूप अनियमितता असणे, आल्यास अतिशय कमी रजस्त्राव होणे किंवा अति प्रमाणात होणे. ही लक्षणे प्रामुख्याने आढळतात.
तसेच याचा परिणाम तिच्या सर्व साधारण प्रकृतीवर होतो. अचानक वजनामध्ये वाढ होते, अंग जड वाटते, झोप जास्त प्रमाणात येते, आळस येतो. काम किंवा व्यायाम करण्याची इच्छा होत नाही. चिडचिड वाढते. गोड खाण्याची इच्छा होते व ते सतत खाल्ल्यामुळे वजन अजून वाढते. काही स्त्रियांमध्ये दाढी व मिशीच्या जागी केस वाढतात. तसेच, पोटाच्या मध्य रेषेवरील केस वाढतात. त्यांना राठपणा येतो. चेहेऱ्या वर काळपट चट्टे उठतात. या सगळ्याचा परिणाम तिच्या व्यक्तिमत्वावर होतो.
पुढे विवाहानंतर, मूल होतानाही या विकृतीमुळे अडचण निर्माण होऊ शकते. नैसर्गिक रित्या गर्भधारणा होणे अवघड जाते.
सगळ्यात चिंतेची बाब म्हणजे तरुण मुलींमध्ये सध्या या विकृतीचे वाढत असलेले प्रमाण. कारण याचा परिणाम तिच्या स्वतःच्या आरोग्यावर, वैवाहिक जीवनावर आणि मातृत्वावर होतो.

पी.सी.ओ.डी. का होतो? त्याची कारणे काय आहेत ?
याची ठोस कारणे सापडली नसली तरी, बैठे काम, जंक फूड जास्त खाणे, व्यायामाचा अभाव, सतत बसून असणे याचा  जवळून संबंध  आढळतो. आईची मासिक पाळी अनियमित असेल तर मुलीच्या मधेही तो दोष उद्भवतो असे मानले जाते, मात्र अनुवंशिकता नसतानाही, वरील प्रकारची बैठी जीवनशैली सातत्याने असेल, तर मुलींमध्ये कालांतराने हि विकृती आढळते.

पी.सी.ओ.डी. बरा कसा होतो? त्यासाठी काय करावे ?
आयुर्वेद शास्त्रा प्रमाणे ही प्रामुख्याने कफ व वाताची विकृती आहे. यासाठी पंचकर्म उपचारांचा उत्तम फायदा झालेला दिसतो. पंचाकर्मामुळे शरीरामधील विकृत वात कमी होतो. साचलेले दोष बाहेर निघून जातात,वजन कमी होण्यास मदत होते.
त्यानंतर योग्य औषधे द्यावी लागतात. साधारणपणे ३ -४ महिने औषधे घेतल्यावर उत्तम फरक पडलेला दिसतो. वजन न वाढवणारा आणि शरीराचे पोषण पूर्ण करणारा आहार सांगावा लागतो. स्थूलत्व असेल तर योग्य व्यायाम द्यावा लागतो.
हे सर्व काही आपण आपल्या आरोग्यासाठी करत आहोत हे समजून घेऊन, करण्यामध्ये सातत्य ठेवल्यास पी.सी.ओ.डी. खूप कमी झालेला आढळतो. मासिक् पाळीचे  चक्र नियमित होते. या प्रकाराने केलेल्या चिकित्सेचे चांगले परिणाम दिसतात व ते तात्कालिक न ठरता दीर्घकाळ राहतात. शिवाय यावर वेळीच उपचार केले तर पुढे विवाहानंतर गर्भधारणा होण्यास कोणतीही अडचण येत नाही.पी.सीओ.डी. चे निदान झाल्यावर लगेच चिकित्सा सुरु करावी. लग्न होण्यापूर्वी जर या विकाराचा त्रास असेल तर त्यावर तत्काळ उपचार सुरु करणे फार महत्वाचे आहे. कारण या विकाराचा परिणाम मुलीच्या गर्भधारण क्षमतेवर होऊ शकतो. मात्र वेळीच उपचार झाल्यास तिला विवाहानंतर आई होण्यास कोणतीही अडचण येत नाही. मात्र..वेळीच उपचार हा भाग फार महत्वाचा ठरतो. यासाठी मुलींनी मासिक पाळी अनियमित होऊ लागली, पाळीचा स्त्राव कमी होऊ लागला किंवा कधी अचानक जास्त होऊ लागला, वजन जास्त वाढू लागले,जडपणा,आळस,वाढू लागला, केस गळू लागले तर तज्ञांची मदत वेळीच घेऊन उपचार ताबडतोब सुरु करावेत. .....डॉ.सरिता वैद्य (एम.डी.)
